In this project, my aim was to channel all my theoretical knowledge about sound as a natural phenomenon into a body of work. I wanted to challenge myself to transform the non-physical into the physical. Turning understanding and ideas into something we can feel is incredibly addictive.
Embracing our massive universe, which we are still far from fully understanding, this is my humble attempt to reflect on the biggest of all that exists.
We are so human…
In this soundscape, my goal was to create an auditory representation of my understanding of motion. At its most basic level, it's about moving forward and backward, positive and negative, above and below zero. Yet, when I blended the rhythmic part with the first element, it evoked such a strong emotional experience that I ended up creating and playing an almost ancient flute-like sound. This sound glued the entire experience together and made it even clearer to me why I do what I do.
The Happy Accident
After spending many hours across several weeks working on the first two tracks of my Doorway EP, I was just jamming with some arpeggios on my Moog Grandmother. I couldn’t get enough of its warm, human-like tone. I kept trying different progressions until I finally decided on the one you hear (or hopefully will hear) on the track. It felt like the perfect next step for the EP—it felt right.
I then performed the entire 8-minute, 30-second version where I transition between the arpeggiator’s pure sine wave tone and the fly-like white noise version, which I’m honestly more than happy with.
